Ron Rapp ’93 and Kristi (Vest) Rapp ‘96 are proud to announce the birth of their first child, a baby boy, Ori Alexander, born in April. *PHOTO* (5/15)

Carol (Rapp) Sherman '96 published he first book under the pen name Anne Carol. The book, titled Never Let Go, is a contemporary romance novel and is the first of a four book series, Faithfully Yours. Published on November 25, 2014, it is available on and Nookbook Press. ERIC VELAZQUEZ '99 was named editor-in-chief of Muscle & Performance (, a custom-published magazine distributed exclusively at The Vitamin Shoppe. Eric is in his tenth year in fitness publishing and has served as a writer/editor for many of the industry's top publications. In 2013, Velazquez was the co-author for The PrayFit Diet, the second book project for the non-profit ministry he helped to launch in 2009 with fitness evangelist Jimmy Pena. Last year, Eric and his wife WENDY VELAZQUEZ '03 moved to Murrieta (Calif.) and in May, the two celebrated their nine-year anniversary. Their daughters, Mya (7) and Ella (6) are attending a Christian school near home and are learning archery, swimming and gymnastics. *PHOTO* (6/15) 






Sarah (Roberts) Bjork '00 has joined ONCAMPUS SUNY, an international program delivered in partnership with Cambridge Education Group, as the new center director at Morrisville State. (2/15)


Kimi (Masunaga) McAdam '01 is a food and nutrition expert. She works at Kaiser Permanente in Anaheim as a pediatric dietitian and the Assistant Department Administrator for Food and Nutrition Services. (2/15)


Megan (McConnell) Sanchez '02 is a kindergarten teacher at Vance Elementary, and recently earned the honor of Teacher of the Year for Asheville City Schools. (2/15)


Tamara (Brose) Francik '03 loves music, especially during Christmas season. She has been a bell ringer for more than 20 years. She directed bell ringing at Saint Peter Lutheran Church and also works in human resources at Thayer County Hospital. (2/15)


Alyssa (Mercier) Brakke '04, M.Ed. '06 and her husband Peter Brakke are excited to welcome their son, Jacob Paul Brakke, into the world, born in January. Both mother and son are doing well. (2/15)

David Tankersley '05 graduated with a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Cal State San Bernardino June 2015 with honors  as a member of Pi Alpha Alpha - the Global Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.  I currently live in the Orange County area working for the Hardin Automotive group.  (12/15)

Andy Puls '05 is excited to join Leventhal Law, a law firm focused on helping innovation-driven companies accomplish their business goals.  After serving large institutional clients at a global AmLaw 100 firm for more than four years, Andy is enjoying this change because it allows him to work with smaller and medium-sized companies in the Southern California region on a more personal level.  He is thankful for this opportunity and looks forward to serving others through his vocation.  *Press release* (4/15)

Rev Dr James W Page, MA '05 recently received his DMin from Concordia Seminary St. Louis.  Ordained at the age of 50, Pastor Page is a life-long learner who earned his MA in Theology from CUI in 2005 at the age of 64 and his DMin this May at age 74. (6/15)


Jeremy Cunningham '06 and his wife Jennifer Cunningham have been traveling around the world to perform in theatre. Jeremy and his wife Jennifer direct musicals for local children at Missoula Children’s Theatre. They make musicals happen within five days and the children get to learn life skills. (2/15)

Jody Steliga '07 is the head coach of the women’s basketball team at Mendocino College. She has been the women’s head coach for eight seasons. In 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 she was voted the Bay Valley Conference Coach of the year. (2/15)

Blake Flattley '07 Director of Worship & Arts at Our Saviour New York will release his most recent full length album, "There Will Be Rest". It is a collection of new music and reimagined hymns inspired by his experiences in New York City and his upbringing in the church. The album will be available June 26th.

Stacy Peterson MA '10 is a personal trainer and trains all different levels of athletes. She used to work at a University, but she finds it more interesting to finally be in a personal training business. She is certified in strength and conditioning, weightlifting, swimming, and has achieved many health certifications. She loves having clients and helping them to reach their goals. (2/15)

Ryan Day '11, MCAA ’14 is in his third year as a pitching coach at Concordia University Irvine. In addition to coaching for CUI, last year Ryan began as a pitching coach for the Mankato MoonDogs where he will return next season as the Field Manager.  (4/15)

Brandon Gonzalez, MCAA ’11 currently is the associate athletic director at Bear Creek School in Washington. After he finishes this school year, he will be moving back to Southern California to start a new job as the first athletic director at Pacifica Christian High School where he will be coaching the girls’ varsity soccer team as well. Casey (O’Connor) Potapkin '11 and Andrey Potapkin '14 met during tennis at Concordia and are now married. Casey has begun her career in Real Estate with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties located in Newport beach, while Andrey is a head Tennis Instructor and owner of Potapkin Tennis located in Irvine Ca. Both Duje Grubisic '12, MBA '14 and Caleb Hamilton '12 are part of the USA Water Polo Men’s National League, and compete on the International Water Polo Club team. (2/15)

Leroy Simms, MCAA '12 has 20 years of volleyball coaching experience. He has been the head women's coach at Pitt-Greensburg for 12 years, and has also coached at Waynesburg University and Waynesburg Central High. Now, he is coaching boys for the first time at Peters Township High School in McMurray, PA. (5/15)

Erik Hisner '13 is a graduate of the MCAA program and just finished his ninth year as head varsity baseball coach at Whitko High School in South Whitley, Indiana where they have won twenty games for the fourth consecutive year.  Following this past season, Erik was chosen by his peers to be the head coach for the North All-Stars in the 41st Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) North-South All-Star Series where the North swept the South for only the sixth time in forty-one years. Joshua Canter '14 accepted a job in Austin, TX for the nation's leading media and communications firm as a Digital Marketing Account Executive performing daily updates and digital marketing campaigns for a variety of high-profile and nationally-known organizations and top conservative leaders. Kimberlee Cody '14 recently received her CA Dept of Insurance Property/Casualty Broker License, and is employed full time with Worldwide Facilities, Inc, as a Technical Assistant. (2/15)


Megan Illsley '14 is excited to now be the "Family and Community Manager" at HopeKids! She is blessed with the opportunity to come alongside families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition. Christian Ramirez '14 was named North American Soccer League Player of the Month in May, June, and September 2014. He says that his commitment and hard work are not just for himself, but for the team, and that this award is the result of his teammates’ hard work. (2/15)

Debra North, MAED ’14 was awarded the Cicero of the month award for February 2015 at the school where she teaches, Gahr High School in Cerritos, CA.  (6/15)

David Sheridan, MCAA ’15 served as an assistant women's soccer coach for the past two seasons at Manchester University in Indiana. At Manchester, he helped the team break the school record for shutouts and several players earned First Team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Second Team All-HCAC honors. David recently he took a position at Notre Dame of Maryland University where he is now the new Head Soccer Coach. (4/15)


In Memoriam


Jim Rahn went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 6. Jim was a professor of natural sciences at Christ College / Concordia University from 1978 to 2001. He is survived by his wife Gail, their sons and many family members and friends.
